Engagement Groups

As our community grows, we gain in energy, diversity, and possibility - and the singing sounds a whole lot better! At the same time, the transition from a very small congregation to a larger one means the loss of a certain intimacy where everyone knows each other rather well. Engagement groups provide a means to find that closeness in the context of a larger community and offer much more - they create safe spaces in which we can share our journeys together and offer support to one another.

What is an Engagement Group?

An Engagement Group is a group of 6-10 people who agree to meet two times each month in self-led sessions for the purposes of:
  • Forming deeper, more intimate relationships
  • Sharing spiritual struggles and growth
  • Deepening religious/spiritual depth
  • Ministering to each other
  • Supporting each othe
  • Learning from each other

What Happens During An Engagement Group Meeting

There is room for customisation as the group prefers. Typically, though, meetings include:
  • Opening words/ ritual, such as a chalice or candle lighting
  • Check-In” time for each person to share, uninterrupted, how/where they are at this time
  • Discussion, sharing of Unitarian-themed materials and short readings
  • “Check-Out” time for each person to share parting thoughts
  • Closing words or ritual
Engagement group session plans, including readings, opening and closing words, will be made available to groups. The group will have a member/facilitator who helps to maintain the safe, supportive environment of the group. For more detailed engagement group resources, please click here.
