Harriet Parris-Piper

Full sized view

Harriet Parris-Piper was born and brought up in Maidstone, Kent. She began her musical studies on the violin at the age of five and then soon took up the piano.

It was not until the age of eleven that Harriet fell in love with the sound of the French horn. She transferred to horn and studied first with Patrick Strevens and then with John Thurgood. Patrick recommended that she audition for the Kent Centre for Young Instrumentalists, which she attended throughout her secondary school education. Her musical activities also included playing with The Kent County Youth Orchestra, and Kent Schools Orchestra. Both orchestras enabled Harriet to tour extensively in Europe and Mauritius, and perform in the Royal Albert Hall 2001.

After leaving school Harriet furthered her musical studies at the Universities of both Leeds and North Texas gaining a 2:1 BMus. She was privileged to study under the tutelage of both Bob Ashworth and William Scharnberg.

Harriet is now at The Trinity College of Music as a Trinity and Leverhulme Scholar. She also studies natural horn with Roger Montgomery.
