Laura Elliott was born in London in 1986 and now lives near Oxford. Her music tuition began with recorder lessons at the age of seven; guitar lessons followed a year later, and flute lessons were added when she was nine. Having had a local teacher for several years, in 2002 she went to the Birmingham Conservatoire Junior School to have lessons from Clare Findlater and Rachel Smith. One year later, she was awarded a place at Chetham’s School of Music to study with Rachel Forgreive.
Whilst at Chetham’s Laura gave many solo and chamber music performances, and as a member of the Chetham’s Symphony Orchestra played in a number of venues including Chester Cathedral, Selby Abbey, Leeds City Hall and the Royal Academy of Music amongst others. Laura has also toured Canada, Hungary and Germany and took part in the Final of the Youth Music Proms at the Royal Festival Hall in June 2002 and at the Royal Albert Hall in October 2002.
Laura was offered a scholarship to study at the student Royal Northern College of Music in 2005 with Peter Lloyd, Jo Boddington and Mike Cox. After completing the first two years of her degree there she was offered a place at Trinity College of Music where she is now studying with Wissam Boustany, Anna Noakes and Lynda Coffin.
Since moving to London Laura has played Principal flute with several orchestras including the London Irish Symphony Orchestra, the Sanctus Chamber Orchestra and Trinity College of Music Symphony Orchestra, which was conducted by famous jazz musician Bobby Lamb.
Laura would like to have a career as an orchestral player as well as a chamber musician and teacher. She is currently performing with the Fantasia Quintet and Two of a Kind duo (flute and guitar).
