Sunday Services

What are services like?

Sunday services draw upon many traditions. You are likely to hear poetry and other secular sources used as well as sacred writings from many of the world's religious traditions. Inclusive language is used to avoid bias against women and others and to open to a wide range of beliefs - including those who do not believe in a traditional notion of God. Because of this inclusiveness, some might term the services 'spiritual but not religious.'

The morning service begins with the lighting of the chalice - the unique symbol of Unitarianism - and includes a unison affirmation which is about New Unity's purpose for being. Later, members of the congregation are invited to light candles of joy and sorrow, sharing with words or in silence.

A collection is taken for charities supported by Unity - a list of some of these may be found here.

While our Sunday services vary from time to time, a typical Sunday morning order of service at New Unity Unitarian Congregation will generally be structured like this.

Where and when?

Every Sunday!

Morning Services

The morning service at Newington Green is the more traditional, with seating in pews, longer blocks of spoken word, and organ music. The service is followed by a social hour with tea, coffee, biscuits, and cake.

Volunteer to help out

There are opportunities to help in small ways at the morning Newington Green service.  You can help by greeting, bringing flowers, setting up, managing social hour, and more.

If you can spare some time for the community, please volunteer via this page.
