Below you can find a list of New Unity’s in-person and virtual connection opportunities. If you’d like to know more, email us.

Do you need urgent mental health support right now? If so, please note that New Unity services cannot respond right away. But the following services can:

If you need urgent help because you are worried that you might harm yourself or someone else and are a resident of Hackney or the City, you can call the 24-hour City & Hackney crisis helpline on 020 8432 8020.

You can also text Shout, a 24/7 UK crisis text service available for times when people feel they need immediate support. Text the word ‘SHOUT” to 85258 and you will be put in touch with a trained Crisis Volunteer.

You can also contact the Samaritans – whatever you’re going through, a Samaritan will face it with you. They are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Tel: 116 123, or email: jo@samaritans.org.

Mental Health Group

usedNU-SundayGathering-Autumn2019-8.jpg

Our new Mental Health Group is a space to talk honestly about your hopes, struggles, suffering and joy, and to build a sense of connection and wellbeing. It is a method for therapeutic talking, which is known to be effective in lifting depression and raising wellbeing.

This is a transformative solution that is sustainable, effective, good for wellbeing and good for the community! Before joining this group we ask you to read through our two sets of guidelines which are available once you sign up.

On hiatus.

Mindful Mondays

Beginners and seasoned meditators welcome. Carola is trained in the scientifically-researched MBSR curriculum and leads a 20-25 minutes secular practice from this and other mindfulness-based approaches.

Mindful Mondays is now taking place on a hybrid basis – once a fortnight on Mondays at 1pm. If you can't attend in-person, you can still join virtually via the link that will be sent to you after registration. Get the link to sign up to the next event at our digital handout.

Virtual supportive listening

Supportive Listening helps with pastoral care, mental health and general wellbeing through listening. We offer up to three half hour listening sessions for people who need it.

To get in touch, please email SupportiveListening@new-unity.org.

Virtual Caring Circle

Screen Shot 2020-05-13 at 17.30.23.png

The Caring Circle at New Unity was set up to provide practical help for those who are going through a difficult time. The current situation now precludes "hands on" help, unless we happen to have a volunteer nearby.

The Caring Circle will now, therefore, provide a “signposting” service. The focus will be researching and referring anyone who needs help to groups and services within and outside New Unity.

This could include issues around shopping during self isolation, collection of prescriptions and medications, worries over financial issues, and requests for regular contact and/or emotional support during this troubling time.

If you are struggling with any aspect of the current situation, or have ongoing concerns we might be able to help with, please do contact us at caringcircle@new-unity.org.

Young People’s Group

NU-SundayGathering-Autumn2019-38.jpg

The Young People’s group at New Unity meets on Sundays, offering an opportunity for young people and their parents to get involved in activities and to get to know one another.

The group is currently meeting online in breakout rooms.

To be added to the mailing and WhatsApp lists for either of these groups, please email Jacky.
