“Each and every one of us has a part to play in ensuring change, and must continue to do everything we can to bring about a kinder and fairer world. By the strength of our common endeavour, we achieve more than we achieve alone, and we do it for the Many, not the Few” - Jeremy Corbyn

Instigated in the late 1970s and now revived in 2025 as part of Newington Green Meeting House’s new Arts on the Green programme, the Richard Price Memorial Lecture promotes ways of thinking about dissent, justice, equality and community through the influential legacy of NGMH’s former minister Richard Price.

We are delighted to welcome Jeremy Corbyn, Independent MP for Islington North and long-time supporter of NGMH, as 2025’s memorial lecturer.

Richard Price FRS (23 February 1723 – 19 April 1791) was a Welsh moral philosopher, Nonconformist minister and mathematician. He was also a political reformer and pamphleteer, active in radical, republican, and liberal causes such as the French and American Revolutions, and wrote on issues of demography and finance. According to the historian John Davies, Price was "the greatest Welsh thinker of all time". He spent most of his adult life as minister of Newington Green Unitarian Church.

Previous memorial lectures have been delivered by Owen Jones, Susie Orbach, Karen Armstrong, Wendy Savage, Labi Siffre, Terry Eagleton and Ralph Miliband amongst others.

New Unity is the Meeting House's Unitarian congregation and radically inclusive community, welcoming both non-religious and religious people. Arts on the Green is its community arts and culture programme.

Jeremy Corbyn was first elected to parliament in 1983. He currently represents Islington North as an independent MP and previously served as Leader of Her Majesty’s Official Opposition from September 2015 to April 2020.

He devotes much time and energy to anti-racism, anti-imperialism, LGBT+ rights, transport, the environment, opposition to nuclear weapons and military intervention, Trade Union policies, Miscarriages of Justice and more. He has travelled extensively in relation to his parliamentary work and international interests particularly attend to human rights, peace and justice.

He was awarded the 2017 Sean McBride Peace Prize and before that, (2013) the Gandhi International Peace Award.

He is currently a member of the Parliamentary Assembly for the Council of Europe, the UK Socialist Campaign Group, and a regular participant at the United Nations Human Rights Council (Geneva), Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (Vice President), and Chagos Islands All Party Parliamentary Group (Honorary President), and a Vice president of the British Group Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
