Sue Morrison, Chair

I am privileged to have been intermittently part of the NU community since 2005.

I am passionate about social justice and equality, and this has been reflected in both my personal and professional choices.

I am a doctor educator and have been a director in Health Education England. I have also worked at grass roots level in health education and provision in Bangladesh and Kenya. I have a particular interest in Coaching for Loss, Bereavement and End of Life.

My work as a GP and a coach with a background in psychotherapy helps me develop rapport with a wide range of people and meet some of the challenges in effective group process. I am a good networker with a forward planning focus and I hope these skills will usefully inform my role as a trustee. I do tend to focus on people rather than tasks and this can be both a strength and a weakness!

Vick Ryder, Vice Chair

I have been a member of New Unity for 12 years and I was previously a trustee for 3 years. During those early years I was responsible for refurbishing the church. I was then liaison between contractors, surveyors, architect and trustees during the renovation of the Newington Green apartment and I assisted during the major refurbishment of the church.

I am a semi-retired Apple Mac hardware engineer. I am also Cisco Networking certified. I previously taught for many years at City & Islington College and was Head Of Centre. I also have been involved in performing arts and music over the years.

I am passionate about New Unity and I hope to continue to support it for many years to come.

Grace Graham, Treasurer

Grace Graham is a local who grew up in the Newington Green area and also went to school here. She runs a training consultancy company supporting organisations to create, develop and implement anti-racism strategies, and lectures on Business Administration and Management. Grace has been a member of the New Unity congregation since 2016 and is in her second term as a trustee. Grace is an active member of the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) and is their Diversity & Inclusion Policy Lead for London. She is a mum, practicing Buddhist and martial artist.

Bérénice Guyot-Réchard

Berenice Guyot-Rechard joined New Unity "by happenstance and necessity" after wandering into the Meeting House one Sunday in 2018. She found a warm welcoming place where people, whatever their background, beliefs or identity, could connect, reflect and (very importantly) sing together. As a trustee and a historian by profession, she is particularly involved in New Unity's Heritage Project, a long-term effort to ensure that our three-hundred year history of fighting for social justice can inspire today's generations.

Lisa Roskam

I am incredibly grateful for the support and inspiration that I have found here at New Unity since moving to Hackney in 2022.  I hope that I may use my background in technology and leadership to be of service to our community. I am particularly passionate about diversity, tolerance, and social justice.

Tara Weeramanthri

I first attended New Unity about eight years ago. I liked the moving messages by the minister, the music and poetry, and the sense of connection engendered through the sharing of joys and sorrows. I am a retired NHS child and adolescent psychiatrist and a retired therapist. I had a particular interest in working with children and young people affected by traumatic experiences. I am also interested in how to promote resilience in the face of adversity. I have studied philosophy. I am a trustee for The Mix - a (mainly) digital charity for young people. I am a volunteer psychosocial practitioner in the British Red Cross. I have lots of interests in arts and culture and in how the arts  enable more voices to be heard within society.
