Meet our Minister, Rev. CJ McGregor.

Rev. CJ arrived as Minister of New Unity in September 2022. Prior to the ministry, he held leadership roles in non-profit organisations in New York and Massachusetts. Rev. McGregor served as the Minister for two Florida, two Massachusetts, and one Rhode Island congregations in the United States. He served as Director of Religious Education for eight years in a Massachusetts congregation. He has served as a hospice chaplain and a chaplain in a forensic unit of a state hospital. He's served the Unitarian Universalist Association as Commissioner of the Commission on Social Witness and has served on the Journey Toward Wholeness Committee as well as Student Liaison for the Ministerial Fellowship Committee.

Rev. CJ holds degrees in Education from Mater Dei College and Divinity from Andover Newton Theological School at Yale University and was Adjunct Professor of Ministerial Formation at Meadville Lombard Theological School.  Rev. CJ describes himself as a spiritual humanist. That is, he holds a worldview that reveres all spiritual traditions and all of humanity beyond any particular tradition. He feels held by something greater and believes we can save ourselves if we are committed to love and justice. He holds the freedom of belief dear and teaches that we all have a place at the table and encourages Unitarians to walk the talk by welcoming everyone regardless of beliefs.

Rev. CJ describes his ministry as pastoral, stating that he receives the greatest satisfaction from being in relationship with congregants and offering care, support, and guidance. Born and raised in the Adirondack Mountains in New York, Rev. CJ and his husband Richard live in Islington. Rev. CJ and Richard have been partnered for over 30 years and were married in 2004. They have two adult sons. He arrives to New Unity to assist the congregation in going deeper into their radical inclusiveness. His shared ministry with the congregation hopes to make New Unity one of the centres in the lives of its members and friends as well as a centre for justice, equity, and compassion in the community. New Unity is poised for growth with its inclusive message and programmes.

Rev. CJ is fellowshipped by both the Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations of America and the General Assembly of Unitarian and Free Christian Churches in the United Kingdom.
