Our regular Sunday Gathering. An opportunity for wisdom, joy, solace, and community – followed by a healthy dose of caffeine, cake, and conversation.
Gatherings include live music, a story for children, singing, poetry and literature, a talk from our Minister, and time for sharing joys and sorrows.
This week's theme is 'Growing Out of Your Label'. We know that the labels we wear confine us. Whether we have chosen them ourselves or had them applied to us without our consent, these categories tend to shape us to fit them and tend to make others see us more and more as nothing more than the label. We are oversimplified to be 'just another angry person of colour', 'just another underachiever', 'just another football hooligan', 'just another privileged cis-het white male' and on and on.
The longer we wear it, the more the label tightens to squeeze our full humanity out of us and we seem to lose the diverse wonder that each of us possesses. Today - how we can break free of those constricting labels so we can expand into our greater possibilities?
